Spin all-rounder Rahul Tewatia is crestfallen after not getting selected in the 17-member Indian squad announced for the upcoming Ireland tour which saw someone like Rahul Tripathi getting his maiden national call-up.

Subsequently, Tewatia took to twitter to say ‘expectations hurts’. The all-rounder had played a crucial role for newbies Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 scoring a total of 217 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 147.62. However, he was made to wait by the selectors despite his best foot forward.

Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has words of wisdom for the frustrated player. Smith is of the opinion that Tewatia should rather focus on his game than the social media.

“We know Tewatia has done well. There are numbers of players in that squad who have done well. There is so much competition for places. I would advise him to stay off Twitter and focus on his game. Give your best performance and make sure that next time the squad comes out no one can leave you out because you have bashed that door down,” said Smith during a television show.

The former South African skipper hinted that Tewatia would not be in the plans of India’s selection committee for the T20 World Cup, starting October 16 in Australia.

“India has got so many talented players. The selectors, coach and captain have an idea of what the majority of the squad is going to look like and what is the balance of the team. The team should be built keeping in mind that the mega event will be played in Australia. The selected players should be best suited as per the condition and the climate,” the burly South African added.
