Ace shuttler, Pramod Bhagat who scripted history by winning a Gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 returned India on Monday with a shine on his face.

Bhagat received a grand welcome on his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi, where fans lifted him on their shoulders and took out a procession celebrating his victory in the Tokyo Paralympics.

An ecstatic Bhagat, who found it difficult to control emotions while describing his feat, said, “I dedicate this medal to all Indians including the state of Odisha and my friends and well wishers who never gave up on me."

Hundreds of fans, followers, government officials and Sports Authority of India (SAI) officials were present at the airport to receive Bhagat. He was then taken to Hotel Ashoka along with other medal winning athletes who were scheduled to be felicitated by the SAI authorities.

Pramod won the gold medal match by defeating his opponent, Great Britain's Daniel Bethell, in two straight games-- 21-14, 21-17. This was Pramod's first-ever participation at any Paralympic Games.

After a dominant display in the first game, the 4-time BWF Champion initially went down in the second but overcame the deficit in a strong manner before ultimately wrapping up gold for him and the country.

From an Indian perspective, just like the Olympics, this edition of the Paralympics in Tokyo will never be forgotten. India have already registered their best ever performance at a single edition of the Paralympics, with the medal haul crossing double figures for the first time in the history of India at the Paralympics, in Tokyo.
