Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle
Rohit Sharma, often called "The Hitman" of Indian cricket, is known for his effortless six-hitting ability and calm composure under pressure. But beyond the field, the Indian captain also brings wit and personality to the game, as seen in his recent appearances on popular shows and interviews. From comparing his sixes to Chris Gayle’s to suggesting a fun twist in cricket’s scoring rules, Rohit is keeping the cricketing world entertained both on and off the pitch.
Appearing on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Rohit was asked about the comparisons with a six-hitting legend like Chris Gayle. With a smile, he responded:
Adding a cheeky twist, Rohit joked, “Give us 8 runs, and we’ll start hitting 100-metre sixes too!” a light-hearted nod to the towering standards set by his West Indian peers.
In another interview with an Indian journalist on YouTube, Rohit shared a creative idea to make cricket more thrilling. When asked about one rule he would like to introduce in the game, "He proposed giving eight runs to a batsman for a six that reaches a distance greater than ninety metres. Furthermore, he suggested that a six that went over the remarkable 100 metres be awarded ten runs. There's no doubt that this idea might make the game much more exciting." Rohit said.
While the idea may sound playful, it’s not hard to imagine how such a rule would add a new layer of excitement, encouraging power-hitters to go all out and crowds to stay on the edge of their seats.
While Gayle may hold the title of “Universe Boss,” in ODIs, Rohit Sharma currently holds the upper hand when it comes to sixes. Rohit has smashed 344 sixes, overtaking Gayle’s tally of 331, and trailing only behind Shahid Afridi, who holds the all-time record with 351.
