In a delightful news for cricket buffs across the globe, an upcoming housing estate in Melbourne’s western suburb of Rockbank has named all its streets after cricketing legends from around the world.

Streets in the Rockbank suburb of Melton City Council have been named after cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Steve Waugh among others.

Besides Tendulkar Drive and Kohli Crescent, the other streets in the estate have been named Waugh Street (Former Australian Captain Steve Waugh), Sobers Drive (West Indies great Sir Garry Sobers), Kallis Way (South African Batsman Jack Kallis), Dev Terrace (India’s former Captain Kapil Dev), Hadlee Street (New Zealand’s former cricketer Sir Richard John Hadlee), Akram Way (Pakistan’s former skipper Waseem Akram) among others.

The names of streets here are usually submitted by developers and approved by the city council, provided they meet the guidelines laid down by the local Office of Geographic Names. Unsurprisingly, the Rockbank suburb, which falls under Melton Council, is popular with homebuyers from the Indian community.

As per some property developers in Melbourne, the initiative to name the streets after cricketers had met with a huge response.

Glenn McGrath came to inaugurate the street named after him. Some residents are hopeful that like McGrath, Indian cricketers too would visit the streets named after them.
