Recently Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has revealed that he was born with chronic Kidney disease. However, it did not stop him from pursuing his dream of playing cricket. 

Green is not the only cricketer who showed resilience by continuing to play with major health issues. Let’s have a look at some other top cricketers across the globe who fought with their diseases amid  illustrious career.

Craig Mcmillan

The New Zealand batter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of only fifteen. However, he did not lose heart of pursuing international cricket. He used to keep jellybeans with him in case he felt his blood sugar was starting to drop. Mcmillan garnered 3,116 Test runs and 4,707 ODI runs in a bright international career spanning 11 years.

Michael Atherton

England cricketer Michael Atherton was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis when he was just 20. He could not duck under bouncers and had to stand tall due to the health issue. This caused him constant pain in the back during his career.

Wasim Akram

Pakistan’s legendary speedster Wasim Akram suffered with diabetes. He got to know about his health condition in 1997. He took a long break from the game to get cured. When he came back in 1999, Akram took several hat-tricks to herald his return.

Richard Hadlee

New Zealand great Richard Hadlee amassed 431 wickets in 86 Test matches during his illustrious career. He was suffering with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome which causes fast heartbeat.

Brian Lara

West Indies great Brian Lara came within inching distance of bidding adieu to his career as he was smitten by Hepatitis B in 2002. However, Lara recuperated fast and in 2004 he claimed the mantle of the highest score in a Test Innings from Hayden after he went on to smash a brilliant 400.

Michael Slater

The Australian attacking batsman was suffering from an acute form of arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis. Despite suffering from intolerable throes, he is considered as one of the most phenomenal openers of the game.

Yuvraj Singh

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer from an early stage. After fighting the toughest battle of his life with unprecedented courage, Yuvi emerged victoriously and announced his arrival in the world of cricket again with some brilliant performances.
