Former Ranji Trophy player of Odisha Sanjay Satpathy passed away in Bhubaneswar on Monday night. He was 76.

Satpathy is survived by his wife Kalyani. A doctor by profession, he worked at Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela till his retirement. Then he settled in Bhubaneswar and was associated with few private hospitals.

Satpathy played for Odisha and East Zone. He played 23 first-class matches during his career spanning from 1965-66 to 1975-76. He has played a match each against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

He scored a total of 265 runs with an average of 8.28. His highest score was 49 no. He picked 37 wickets in his first-class career with an average of 33.75 and strike rate of 61.35. His best bowling performance was 6/89.

He was also a short-story writer both in Odia and English.
