Speculation is rife that Team India’s regular Test captain Rohit Sharma will announce his retirement after the completion of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against hosts Australia.

Rohit is going through such a horrible form that he has been dropped from the playing eleven for the final Test match.

Now fans are intrigued by the question that who will be the captain of the team in the longest format of the game. While some experts are saying that premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah should take over the mantle from Rohit, some others are of the opinion that senior batter Virat Kohli should be preferred for the responsible post again because of his tactical acumen.

Meanwhile, former India captain and legendry batsman Sunil Gavaskar preferred Bumrah over Kohli to be the next Test captain of India. Gavaskar indirectly indicated that Bumrah should be given preference over Kohli for the coveted job.

India have Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill for the captaincy job. When asked who among these cricketers can replace Rohit Sharma if he decides to leave the job, Gavaskar said, “I think a player who is available for the Final of World Test Championship in 2027 should lead India.”

Gavaskar’s statement suggests that he was referring to Bumrah, who is the only player, who is guaranteed a spot in the team.

Kohli has failed miserably in the five-match Test series against Australia and there is a possibility of him getting dropped after the tour.
