Ind vs Aus: Former great bats for Nitish Reddy’s promotion in Indian batting order

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Nitish Reddy's century boosts India's position in the Boxing Day Test at MCG. Ravi Shastri suggests promoting Reddy in the batting order for better team balance.

Riding on Nitish Reddy’s brilliant century, India found themselves in a better position in the fourth Test against hosts Australia in the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

In response, former India all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri has advocated for Reddy’s promotion in the Indian batting order after his sensational maiden century.

According to Shastri, Nitish batting in top-six would provide better balance to India going into the fifth and final Test.

“I feel that the way Nitish has batted, this is the last time he will bat at 7,” said Shastri in a recent interaction.

“To get the balance of the side, you need him to go higher up the order, either 5 or 6 and then you have the opportunity of playing 5 bowlers to take the 20 wickets, and he has given that kind of confidence to the selectors and the team management and the captain,” he further said.

“Reddy is fully capable of batting in the top 6. Then it changes the whole balance of the game. You go to Sydney with him batting in the top 6, and you’re playing five bowlers,” he added.

Notably, Nitish added just nine runs to his overnight score of 105. He got out to Nathan Lyon as the visitors were bundled out for 369 in their first innings.
