Mohammed Siraj has been selected in the Indian T20I squad for the ongoing series against South Africa as a replacement for experienced pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
However, the decision has not gone down well with the fans. Several cricket buffs feel that Mohammad Shami, who has now recovered from Covid, is a better choice. As per them, it is a call by BCCI that lacks clarity and the team may pay a price for it soon.
Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.
Earlier, before the first T20I between India and South Africa at Thiruvananthapuram, the BCCI had said that Bumrah was ruled out of Wednesday’s match after complaining of back pain during a practice session on Tuesday.
Some fans feel that it is confusing to see experienced pacer Shami being ignored again.
Here are some of the tweets by cricket buffs who expressed their shock at BCCI's decision to ignore Shami.
This siraj inclusion makes close to 0 sense from a planning and management POV. Shami who had covid has tested negative as per various news reports - so why is Shami not just brought back into the squad. Or is he unfit - if so is he still in the plans? #TeamIndia #T20WorldCup2022— Vyom Nanavati (@vyom_nanavati) September 30, 2022
Why is #Shami being ignored??🤔 though Siraj is a good choice too— Sam Nathan (@tweet2days) September 30, 2022
But overall it’s not a good look for bumrah that he has not managed his workload. Not being fit for a marquee event like this in Australia is poor management https://t.co/PvTqMsqdMw
