Para powerlifter Sudhir clinched the gold medal in the Men’s Heavyweight final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 with the best weight of 212 kg on Thursday.

This is the country’s first ever gold medal in the para powerlifting event. Sudhir kicked off his event with successful lift of 208 kg and his second attempt he scored 134.5 points by lifting 212 kg. In the third attempt, he failed to lift 217 kg but clinched the gold medal.

In another significant feat, Murali Shreeshankar bagged the silver medal in the Men’s Long Jump final with a mark of 8.08 m. He becomes the first ever Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth medal in the long jump.
