Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has expressed his desire to play one more season of the Indian Premier League as a gift to his fans who have showered their love on him.

In the presentation ceremony after the IPL 2023, the Captain Cool admitted that it was probably the right time for him to bid adieu to his beloved game by announcing his retirement from IPL, but like any typical answer, there was more to it.

“Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. However, the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say ‘thank you very much’. The tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine months and come back and play at least one more season of IPL,” the veteran wicketkeeper batsman said.

Meanwhile, CEO of the five-time champions, Kasi Vishwanath, has welcomed Dhoni’s call.

“Dhoni himself has told in the press conference that he is likely to continue to play next year. We wholeheartedly welcome it,” said Vishwanath during an interview.

However, for Dhoni to play in the next edition of IPL, a lot will depend on his body. He has to take care of his knees really well and get rid of the injuries. He has six-to seven months in hand to be fully prepared both physically and mentally for IPL 2024.
