Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni got emotional when he lifted Ravindra Jadaja in his arms after the star all-rounder hit the winning runs in the title clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to help them emerge champions for a record-equaling fifth time in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Recently, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan spoke extensively about Captain Cool Dhoni’s tearful moment after the final match during a television interview.
As per Viswanathan, Dhoni was visibly emotional and it had a lot to with him getting out in the final.
“No one expected Dhoni to react like that. But when the equation was down to 21 off 16, I think the skipper was anguished at getting out on the first ball. Had he stayed, he would have finished the match. After coming back to the pavilion, may be he was hurt for failing to fulfill his responsibility. He might have thought that CSK are going to lose another title after getting so close. However, as long as Jadeja was there, everybody had hope as he is a big match player,” said Viswanathan.
“To have won the match from the jaws of defeat might have triggered such an emotional reaction from Dhoni,” he added.
