Champions Trophy: Will Varun Chakaravarthy be included in Indian team?

As per sources, there is a fair chance that Chakravarthy might just replace one of the four specialist spinners in the Champions Trophy squad.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy performed brilliantly in the recently concluded T20I series against England. Chakravarthy captured a total of 14 wickets in five T20Is at an impressive average of 9.86 with an economy of 7.66. He was also adjudged the Player of The Series.  

The inform bowler was rewarded for his show as he was included in the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against the same opponents. The 33-year-old spinner joined the India squad in Nagpur, the venue for the first ODI against England. He was also seen training and bowling in the nets.

Many experts have advocated for Chakravarthy’s inclusion in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. After Chakravarthy was included in the Indian team for the series against England, many experts are feeling that the development will eventually pave the way for the selection of the mystery spinner for the Men in Blue in the mega event.

As per sources, there is a fair chance that Chakravarthy might just replace one of the four specialist spinners in the Champions Trophy squad. It could be one among Kuldeep Yadav or Washington Sundar, who could be axed to accommodate Chakravarthy before the final squad is announced. A lot will depend on how he performs in the ODI series against England.

Notably, India will play all their matches in Dubai in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
