New Zealand's preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy final against India have been overshadowed by concerns over the fitness of their premier fast bowler, Matt Henry. Henry sustained a shoulder injury during the semi-final clash against South Africa, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming title decider on March 9 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Injury Details

The incident occurred in the 29th over of South Africa's innings when Henry executed a diving catch to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen. While the catch was successful, Henry landed awkwardly on his right shoulder, leading to immediate discomfort and necessitating his temporary exit from the field.

Team Management's Response

New Zealand's head coach, Gary Stead, has acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Henry's participation in the final, stating that his fitness status remains "unknown" approximately 48 hours before the match.

Impact on New Zealand's Bowling Attack

Henry has been instrumental in New Zealand's journey to the final, emerging as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in four matches at an average of 16.70. His potential absence would significantly impact the team's pace attack, placing additional responsibility on fellow seamers Kyle Jamieson and William O'Rourke.

Opposition's Perspective

India, aiming for a record third Champions Trophy title, will be wary of New Zealand's adaptability. Despite Henry's uncertain status, India's captain, Rohit Sharma, emphasized the need to focus on their own preparations, acknowledging New Zealand's resilience and depth.
