BCCI
Team India's underwhelming showing in the ongoing 2024–25 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has triggered alarm bells within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), putting the future of certain support staff members in doubt.
Reports indicate that bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate are facing the prospect of being removed from their roles, regardless of the outcome of the current Test series in England.
Although the pair might remain in place until the Asia Cup in September due to logistical challenges, their long-term positions appear to be on shaky ground. Both Morkel and ten Doeschate were chosen by head coach Gautam Gambhir when he took charge last year, but their contributions—particularly in the Test format—have come under scrutiny.
The BCCI has expressed dissatisfaction with Morkel, a former South African pacer, citing a lack of progress in India's fast bowling unit. Simultaneously, doubts have been raised about ten Doeschate’s role and tangible impact within the coaching setup.
Gambhir has previously worked with Morkel at the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and with ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar at Kolkata Knight Riders. Notably, Nayar has already exited the coaching staff following India’s poor performance in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
