In a big decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the implementation of a pay equity policy for contracted Indian women cricketers. The match fee for both men and women cricketers will be the same.

The governing body for cricket in India has taken the historic decision on Thursday to promote gender equality in the nation’s most-loved game.

BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah has implemented the ‘pay equity policy’ for contracted Indian women cricketers. The match fee for both men and women cricketers will be the same.

Announcing the significant decision on Twitter, Shah wrote, “I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCI Women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket”.

Shah also added that Indian women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. For Test cricket match, the fee will be Rs 15 lakh. Similarly, for ODIs the fee will be Rs 6 lakh and for a T20I match fee of Rs 3 lakh will be provided.

“The @BCCI Women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support,” Shah wrote.
