Pakistan were out of the Asia Cup after suffering a two-wicket loss against defending champions Sri Lanka in the Super Four match at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

As per some reports, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and their premier speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi got into a heated argument during a dressing room meeting between the team. Senior player Mohammad Rizwan had to intervene to calm down both the players.

Babar was reportedly furious over the Green Army’s performance in the must-win game and he said that the players have not been performing responsibly.  Responding to Babar’s remark, Shaheen told Babar to at least appreciate the players, who performed well.

Babar was clearly unimpressed with Shaheen’s remark and said that he’s aware of who is performing and who is not. The argument was quite heated. Wicket-keeper batter Rizwan had to intervene to stop the fight.

“Disappointed with how it finished but this is not the end. We never gave up and fought all the way, and this fighting spirit should not go down. There is a bigger challenge coming our way and we will be better prepared for it In shaa’Allah. Pakistan Zindabad,” Shaeen Afridi tweeted later.

Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar was furious on Babar following the incident and said that his captaincy is in danger. He termed Pakistan’s exit from the Asia Cup 2023 as ‘embarrassing’ while urging the team, particularly the captain Babar, to buckle up and sharpen his captaincy ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup.

“Having said that this is a very embarrassing loss. The fact that Pakistan are out of the tournament, doesn’t look nice. Pakistan have a lot to think about. The captaincy needs to sharpen up a bit. I am very disappointed. Can’t say more,” said Akhtar.
