It was an incredible day for star Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj as he returned with career-best spell of six for 21 in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa in Colombo on Sunday.

Riding on the dream spell by Siraj, Sri Lanka were bowled out for merely 50 in 15.4 overs in the all-important final. The star pacer decimated the Sri Lankan batting order after Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka opted to bat under overcast conditions.

With the devastating spell Siraj became the first Indian to take four wickets in an over in the fifty-over format. Moreover, he equalled Sri Lanka legend Chaminda Vaas’ world record for fastest five-wicket haul, reaching the milestone in just 2.4 overs.

After the match, Siraj termed his incredible bowling as a ‘dream spell’.

“Feels like a dream. Last time I did the same against Sri Lanka at Trivandrum. Got four wickets early, couldn’t get the five-for. Realised you get what’s in your destiny. Did not try too much today. I have always looked for swing in white-ball cricket. Did not find much in the previous games. But today it was swinging, and I got more wickets with the outswinger. Wanted to make the batters drive,” said Siraj.
