What is banana swing?

Banana swing is mostly bowled by the speedsters. It stands out due to its unpredictability and effectiveness. It is often associated with reverse swing. Banana swing is a special kind of delivery that moves sharply through the air, making it extremely difficult for the batters.

The ball traces a curved path in the air in banana swing resembling the shape of a banana. When executed perfectly, the ball follows a C shape trajectory before zipping in or out. It depends on whether it’s an in-swinger or out-swinger. This late movement leaves batsmen with very little time to react. It often results in bowled and LBWs.

The term banana swing gained popularity in the late 1980s when Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis showcased this deadly skill against Australia.
