The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently appointed Ajit Agarkar as chairman of the Senior Men's Selection Committee.The five-man selection committee, which will be headed by Agarkar, also have Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Sridharan Sharath and Salil Ankola.
With an outstanding figure in a total of 221 matches he played for India, Ajit Agarkar has been a part of some memorable moments of India cricket.
Apart from being one of the best fast bowlers India has so far produced, this former Indian cricketer has contributed crucial runs helping India win thrilling matches.

The biggest moment for the Indian all-rounder came in 2002 when he scored his maiden test hundred against England at the home of cricket, Lords.
He is among the few Indian cricketers whose name is on the honours board which includes Vinod Mankad, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri, Gundappa Viswanath, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Ajinkya Rahane and KL Rahul.
Ajit Agarkar took his only 5-wicket haul against Australia which came in Adelaide in 2003. His 6-41 helped India bowl Australia out for just 196 runs in the second innings which helped India win the match by 6 wickets.
His fiery bowling spell is often regarded very highly after India’s memorable win in Australia.
After posting a competitive total of 248 runs by Sri Lanka, India was struggling at one point with a score of 215-7. With 29 runs needed off 18 balls, the right-arm fast bowler stitched a crucial partnership with Robin Singh which helped India win a tense run chase against Sri Lanka in Sharjah.
From Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag to Rohit Sharma, India has produced many attacking batsman over the years, but it is Ajit Agarkar who holds the record of scoring the fastest fifty for India in One-day internationals.
On December 2000, Ajit Agarkar scored the fastest fifty against Zimbabwe where he scored 67 off 25 balls which helped India post a score of 301 runs on the board. He was equally instrumental with the ball- he picked up 3 wickets.
The former Indian fast bowler holds another record of being the fastest Indian bowler to take 50 wickets in ODIs. He achieved this milestone in 23 matches vs Zimbabwe in 2000.
Another fact, in terms of days, he still holds the world record of reaching the milestone in just 183 days.
