Ajit Agarkar
Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar is all set to become the next chairman of the senior selection committee of BCCI.
The post has been vacant since February 17 when former fast bowler Chetan Sharma resigned as he was at the centre of a sting operation by a television channel.
As per sources, BCCI has promised Agarkar to increase the annual salary of the chief selector. Currently, the chef selector is getting salary of Rs 1 crore per annum. The other members of the selection panel are paid Rs 90 lakh each per year.
After getting assurance from BCCI about the increase in salary, Agarkar decided to apply for the post of chief selector. He is the only big name in the list of applicants.
Agarkar quit his role as assistant coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday. Earlier in 2020, BCCI had not picked Agarkar when he had applied for the selector’s post.
Notably, BCCI will increase the salary of the selectors as former players who met the criteria for the post were unwilling to apply as their other sources of income, like from commentary and as cricket experts were better paying.
