Ajinkya Rahane voices concerns over India's bowling ahead of final Test

After India’s gritty draw in the fourth Test at Manchester, former captain Ajinkya Rahane has voiced a serious concern looming over the team, one that could impact the series-deciding fifth Test. 

While India's batting has been widely praised for its resilience, Rahane believes it’s the bowling department that is letting the team down.

Batters Shine, Bowlers Struggle

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rahane lauded India’s batting performance, calling it “fantastic” after Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar struck valiant centuries to save the Manchester Test. However, he didn’t hold back when assessing the bowling unit.

“A couple of bowlers are doing well, but they aren’t getting support. That’s worrying,” Rahane said. India conceded nearly 700 runs in England’s only innings in Manchester, exposing the fragility of the attack.

Injuries and Selection Woes

India’s bowling resources were stretched thin due to injuries to Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep, both of whom were pivotal in earlier matches. Their absence has only intensified scrutiny of India’s team selection.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir has come under fire for favoring all-rounders over specialist bowlers. Critics argue this approach has compromised India's bowling strength. Veteran commentator Sanjay Manjrekar added, “India’s fightback is more about player grit than tactical brilliance.”
