India is a country with abundance of talents in cricket. Many Indian-origin cricketers have also represented different countries and become successful. 

Let’s have a look at some of those cricketers who have done wonders in international cricket:

Hashim Amla

Amla’s father belonged to Suraj, Gujarat before settling in Durban where Hashim was born and raised. Amla became a regular part of South Africa team in 2006. He was a prolific batsman. He scored runs in all parts of the globe.

Nasser Hussain

The Indian-origin cricketer was a great batsman. He was born in India itself, hailing from Madras. His father was a Tamil-speaking Muslim and the entire family left for England when Nasser was just seven. Hussain continued playing for England for 15 years. He also went on to lead England as a successful captain.

Ramnaresh Sarwan

Sarwan was a Hindu. The Indian-origin cricketer played for West Indies successfully. He was the backbone of the West Indian team for a long time. He scored close to 6,000 runs in both ODI and Test format.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul

Chanderpaul’s ancestors belonged to India before they were sent to the West Indies because of the labour system in place. He made his debut for West Indies in 1994 and his career lasted a whopping 21 years. He played 164 Tests in his career. He made a tally of more than 20,000 runs combined in both ODI and Test format.

Ravi Vopara

Ravi Bopara belongs to a Sikh family and he was born and brought up in England. He went on to play for England. He was one of the very few English cricketers to have scored three consecutive centuries in the longest format.

Sunil Narine

Mystery spinner Sunil Narine has an Indian origin just like several of his mates in the West Indian team. He hasn’t played much international cricket but is probably a legend in franchise cricket.

Muttiah Muralitharan

Legendry spinner Muttiah Muralitharan’s paternal grandfather came from South India to Sri Lanka back in the 1920s to work in the tea plantations and his family settled there ever since. While playing for Sri Lanka, Muralitharan has picked up 800 wickets in Test cricket. He has also captured 534 wickets in ODI format.

Stuart Clark

Stuart Clark’s father was born and brought up in Chennai and his mother has an Indian origin as well. He has an extremely efficient run as a fast bowler for Australia during his short career.
