SOA placement row: Students’ Cong burn effigies of CM, Minister
Bhubaneswar: The Students’ Congress on Saturday turned the heat on Odisha Government over the fake placement row at Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) under SOA university.
Demanding immediate arrest of ITER authorities and detailed investigation, the Students’ Wing of the Congress took out a motorcycle rally from Congress Bhawan at Master Canteen to Naveen Nivas.
However, tension prevailed near Sishu Bhawan chhak after police tried to stop the activists moving towards Naveen Nivas. According to reports, there was a scuffle between police and students’ Congress leaders who tried to break the security cordon near Sishu Bhawan chhak.
The Student Congress workers later burnt the effigies of Chief Minister and Technical Education minister Usha Devi. Few activists were subsequently taken into preventive custody by police.
In another development, Commissionerate police today sought a three day remand for ITER Dean (Placement) RK Hota, who was earlier arrested, for his alleged involvement in the fake placement issue.
