Senior BJD leader and MLA Debi Mishra on Tuesday faced stiff opposition from a section of party workers over the selection of Sarpanch and Samiti Sabhya candidates for the upcoming Panchayat elections.

As per reports, a scuffle broke out between two groups of the BJD workers near Baselihata Chhak at Narasinghpur in the district on Tuesday. Debi Mishra, who was on his way to attend a programme at Narasinghpur, was reportedly heckled during the fracas.

The scuffle reportedly broke out after a section of the BJD workers alleged massive irregularities in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Public Distribution System (PDS) in the region.

"The present misgovernance has taken a toll on the poor. Instead of the actual beneficiaries, salaried people are getting PDS benefits. Similarly, they (BJD) are now extending support to the ones who we have not chosen," said a BJD worker, Anand Chandra Pratihari.

Another BJD worker, Birkishore Dhala, alleged that even though he has been working for the BJD for the last 25 years, he was neglected while a person having money power has been chosen as the party's Sarpanch candidate.

However, the BJD MLA refuted any issues between party workers while terming the incident as an ‘internal’ matter. "There was no opposition. I don't know how you saw it. No one opposed me. It is an internal matter," he said.
