BJD vice-president and Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik condemned the act of pelting eggs by Opposition members against Odisha government's ministers and suggested that distributing such eggs to needy people will instead serve their motto better.

Patnaik, known for being vocal in any matter related to the State said without naming anyone that he doesn’t support 'egg attacks' to display disapproval against the governance or administration. Instead of wasting eggs by hurling them against ministers, the opposition parties should distribute them among children and the needy.

Taking a jibe at the leaders of the Opposition flanks, Soumya said, "Many poor people don't have the luxury to afford eggs to eat. If you have so many eggs, why not distribute it among downtrodden people and create dislike for BJD."

The senior BJD leader further added, “Panchayat election is around the corner and this is a way of political leaders to show off their power and influence. But, there are other ways to display protest too,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Opposition party members hurled eggs at the carcade of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik near Government Hospital Square in Puri while he was returning after laying the foundation stone for the ambitious Rs 331-crore Srimandir Heritage Corridor Project. The protesting members also showed black flags to the CM’s cavalcade.

Several ministers and lawmakers of the ruling BJD continue to face the wrath of the Opposition with egg attacks in the last few weeks following the sensational murder case of Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher.
