A man allegedly hurled slippers at BJD leader and State Law Minister Pratap Jena in his home constituency Mahanga in Cuttack district during a programme on Sunday.

According to sources, Jena, who also holds the Panchayati Raj portfolio, attended Sarat Ustav at Erakana of Mahanga on Sunday evening when the incident took place.

Jena was sitting on the dais after addressing the public when one person from the crowd hurled the slippers targeting him. However, the slippers skipped the Minister and hit his security personnel.

Tension erupted at the programme following the incident. Police have reportedly detained the person involved in the incident.

It can be mentioned here that the Minister has been in the eye of storm over the sensational Mahanga double murder case. BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate Dibyasingha Baral were brutally murdered in Mahanga in January this year.

As many as 13 persons including Minister Pratap Jena were booked under various sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder) in the murder case. However, dropping of name of the Minister from chargesheet was challenged in a local court which subsequently ordered a reinvestigation of the case.

Recently, the inspector-in-charge of Mahanga police station, Nihar Ranjan Mohanty submitted the reinvestigation report of the double murder case and the Call Detail Report (CDR) of the three accused in Salepur Judicial Magistrate First Class court.
