Single engine or double engine government is not important, but from people’s point of view, governance matters, said Chief Minister & BJD President, Naveen Patnaik on Saturday during the party's Jharsuguda bypoll victory celebrations.

While addressing party workers at Sankha Bhawan, BJD’s office in Bhubaneswar, in the wake of the resounding victory of party candidate Dipali Das in Jharsuguda bypoll, Naveen Patnaik said, "Good governance and pro-people governance always wins. Those who insult the people of Odisha by calling them lawless are working against our State. Those who insult our mothers, sisters, and daughters are working against the people and their prosperity.  People of Odisha will never forgive them.”

“At the time of Padampur bypoll, the Opposition party had disrespected our mothers. They had hurled abuses at our woman candidate. Be it Padampur or Jharsuguda by-election, they had disrespected the daughters who lost their fathers.  They have been criticizing the leaders and mothers of Mission Shakti. Odisha people have never tolerated the disrespect meted out to their mothers. Our daughters are our pride,” he said.
Throwing the spotlight on the role of Mission Shakti, he said, “The BJD has been encouraging the involvement of our mothers in public life. Mission Shakti is a platform for them to raise their voice. Mission Shakti has taken them out of the four walls of the kitchen and empowered them. Mission Shakti believes in this ideology.”

“The Opposition party has been opposing the empowerment of our mothers. This is a dangerous trend and the people of Odisha have always been against such behavior,” he added.
BJD will always stand with the people of Odisha, especially the vulnerable section and women. Let us get united for the development of Odisha, democratic values, cultural dignity, and respect our mothers and their rights, he urged.

In the context of Jharsuguda by-election, he said, “This victory is the victory of Jharsuguda people, the victory of women power. For this, I am indebted to the people of Jharsuguda. The Biju Janata Dal is indebted to them. I would like to thank those lakhs of our workers. Today, I am giving you my word that the BJD will intensify its efforts for the development of Jharsuguda. The development started by Naba Babu will be taken to a new height.”

Responding to Naveen Patnaik, Odisha BJP president, Manmohan Samal said "Naveen Patnaik should learn good governance from the govt at the centre. The common man is not getting justice in Odisha without money. Most rapes are reported from the State. People have made up their minds to vote for a double-engine government in 2024."
