A man who was in the fray for the post of sarpanch disappeared under mysterious circumstances in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. 

Though Sadananda Tudu has been missing since Tuesday, the matter came to light after his wife, Basanti Tudu lodged a complaint with the local police station on Wednesday.  

Tudu was one of the contestants for the post of sarpanch of Bhatachatra gram panchayat in Bisoi block of Mayurbhanj district. The voting in Bhatachatra GP is being held today in the fifth and final phase of the three-tier Panchayat elections.   

In her complaint, Basanti said her husband left home at 8 pm on Tuesday and did not return home. She added that despite a frantic search, they could not trace him.  

“When he did not return home till late night, I tried to contact him over phone. However, his cellphone was found to be switched off. We also searched for him, but could not find him anywhere,” Basanti said.

Earlier, a sarpanch aspirant in Machakuta Panchayat under Angul’s Chhendipada block was reported missing. However, the contestant,  Manoj Sethi, was later found at his in-law's home at Sangeipali village near Deogarh. 

Similarly, the husband of a woman Samiti member contestant had gone missing in Dhenkanal district. Chinmay Das, the husband of Bharati Rath was later rescued in an unconscious state from a farmland.
