Senior Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday issued a formal apology to President Draupadi Murmu for making highly controversial Rastrapatni remark at the President.

‘I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you hold. I assure you that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologize and request you to accept the same’ the Congress Parliamentarian wrote in his letter to President Murmu.

On Thursday, the Congress MP stoked a whirlwind of controversy after a video showing him referring to Murmu as ‘Rashtrapatni’ while talking to the media during his party’s protests over a host of issues.

The remark drew sharp criticisims from all around especially the ruling NDA with several Union Ministers, leaders of BJP and even the common man coming down hard on the Congress leader for tarnishing the highest constitutional post of the country.

BJP leader Smriti Irani tore into the Congress leadership while making a speech in the Parliament a day later and demanded an immediate apology from the Congress and Chowdhury.
