Days after parting ways with the Congress, former Punjab party president Sunil Jakhar joined Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of its president JP Nadda in Delhi on Thursday.

A three-time MLA and one-time MP, Jakhar had quit from the Congress a few days ago. Recently he had said that he was left heartbroken at being removed from all party posts by the Congress disciplinary panel following allegations of anti-party activities against him by some Punjab unit leaders.

Jakhar had lashed out at former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh, saying that he was "not an asset" as depicted by the party leadership, and had also criticized Congress leader Ambika Soni for stating about the "repercussions of having a Hindu chief minister in Punjab"
