The public notice for the 15th Presidential Election has been issued on Wednesday and the same has been put up in the notice board of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. 

“As per the notification for the Presidential Election, issued by the Election Commission, the public notice has been issued today and the same has been put up in the notice board of the Odisha Legislative Assembly and republished through media,” informed Raghuram Iyer, assistant returning officer. 

The filing of nomination papers for election to the post of Nation’s first citizen has started from today and will continue till June 29.  While scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 30, the papers can be withdrawn by July 2, he said. 

“While the election for the President of India will be held on July 18, the counting will take place in New Delhi on July 21,” he added. 

Notably, the tenure of current President of India Ram Nath Kovind is coming to an end on July 24. In the last Presidential Election held in 2017, Ram Nath Kovind defeated joint opposition candidate Meira Kumar to become the first citizen of India.  While the former polled 7,02,000 votes, the latter garnered 3,67,000 votes.
