Tension once again erupted in Ganjam district during the filing of nomination papers for the upcoming Panchayat polls, leaving as many as six persons injured on Thursday.

As per reports, a group of people were heading to file nomination papers for their candidate for the Panchayat elections in Ramachandrapur Panchayat, under Chikiti Block of the district, when they were allegedly attacked by a rival group.

The miscreants from the rival group attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks. As many as six persons were injured in the attacks. Of them, four have suffered grievous injuries.

The injured persons were rushed to the MKCG Hospital in Berhampur where the condition of two injured persons is stated to be critical.

While the police are yet to nab the attackers, the law and order situation in the district seems to be deteriorating.

A similar incident has occurred in Khambari Village under Patrapur block of the same district where rival groups clashed using sharp weapons. Details regarding the incident are awaited. 

Earlier on January 18, a violent clash between two groups was reported from Mundamarai village, under Dharakote Block, in the district which had left three persons injured.
