At least six persons sustained critical injuries after supporters of two political parties clashed with each other at Bana Sahi under Mangalpur Gram Panchayat in Jajpur district.

The injured were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Later, two of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

As per reports, the clashes occurred between both the parties following the defeat of a Sarpanch candidate in the recently-concluded Panchayat elections. Some vehicles were also ransacked during the clash.

Mangalpur police detained two persons after registering a case in this regard. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

In a similar incident, some miscreants reportedly set ablaze a car belonging to a Sarpanch-elect at Kaipadar village in Khordha district over political enmity. Local police have started an investigation into the case.

In another development, as many as five members of a family had a narrow escape after some miscreants hurled bombs at their house in Mahulipal village under Kamakhyanagar police station in Dhenkanal district on late Wednesday night.

Two persons of the village have been detained so far for their alleged involvement in the incident.

As per reports, one Balunkeswar Dehuri has been accused of performing sorcery at their house by their neighbour Rabi Narayan Penthei for quite some time. Both the families were found hurling abuses at each other last evening. Later, Penthei and his two sons allegedly hurled bombs at Dehuri’s house following the incident and fled from the spot.

Though Dehury’s family members had a narrow escape, a portion of their house and the gate collapsed after the blaze. They lodged a complaint at Kamakhyanagar police station.

Kamakhyanagar police visited the spot and detained Penthei and one of his sons. Questioning of the accused and further investigation into the incident is underway.
