Political heat in Balasore rose on Thursday after members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came face to face during the foundation laying ceremony of the new railway station building in the town.

The timing of the face-off between the two rival political groups bears particular significance because of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s scheduled visit to the coastal Odisha town on Friday to distribute BSKY smart health cards.

As per reports, BJP MP Pratap Sarangi and BJD MLA Swarup Das were present at the foundation laying ceremony for the new railway station building when BJD workers raised slogans hailing CM Naveen. This irked the BJP supporters who started sloganeering in favour of PM Narendra Modi as a response to the BJD cadres.

Tension flew high and soon the sloganeering turned into heated exchange of words. However, it was brought under control before going out of hands by both Sarangi and Das.

Working President of State Youth BJD, Suvendu Mangaraj said, “Even the State government has its share in the new railway station building which is being built here. We will not allow partisan politics here in Balasore.”

Rubbishing Mangaraj’s claims, BJP Yuva Morcha President in Balasore, Rajesh Mohapatra said, “This project belongs to the Centre. The present Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav was the Collector of Balasore when this project was sanctioned. So, the BJD has nothing to do here.”

“As far as the sloganeering is concerned, it was in praise of Bharat Mata. What is wrong in that” asked Mohapatra.
