BJD’s thumping win at the recently concluded Padampur bypoll has opened up the debate again on good governance model in Odisha.

Soon after BJD candidate and late Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha’s daughter Barsha Singh Bariha defeated BJP’s Pradip Purohit with a margin of over 42,000 votes, the BJP raised debate on good governance model.

After failing to attract Padampur voters with the promises made by four Union Ministers and other top leaders of the BJP, the saffron party has now taken a dig at BJD’s ‘Padampur model’ claiming the country has the best governance model in Gujarat.

Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said, “Be it Odisha or other states, when it comes to good governance model Gujarat has it. Odisha has a corrupt governance model which people will not accept.”'

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “We have also Dhamnagar model. Both Dhamnagar and Padampur bypolls have taught BJP many things. They taught us how to face 2024 General Elections. BJP is the main opposition in Odisha. People want BJP to bring the state government’s failure in many fields to the fore.”

On the other hand, BJD said the ruling party works for people and is always with them.

It may be mentioned that the anti-BJD slurs did not affect the voters in Padampur by-polls. Failure of the BJP leaders and workers in executing plans laid out by the poll strategists on ground zero is said to be the reason behind its defeat in the Padampur by-poll.

Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya said, “It does not matter for us what BJP says. BJD will keep working for public. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik lives in the heart of common people. Development will be our agenda for 2024 elections. We will do whatever our party supremo will decide.”
