The Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party in Odisha has written to the Speaker of Odisha  Assembly urging him to pass a resolution to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) for another six months.

Expressing their gratitude to the PM for his farsighted decision to extend the PMGKY, the Saffron party legislatures in the letter urged Speaker Surya Narayan Patro to pass a resolution under Rule III (I) of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Odisha Legislative Assembly as a gesture of appreciation.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended the free food grain scheme, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, for another six months, ending September 2022.

The BJP legislators in Odisha mentioned it in the letter that the extension of the PMGKY would be immensely beneficial to 3.25 crore people of Odisha. “Of the total Rs80,000 crore to be borne by the Central government, Rs3,550 crore will be spent for Odisha alone,” they said.

“This is the sixth phase of the scheme being extended. It will be a great help to the poor people. We urge the House to extend its gratitude to Prime Minister Modi,” said deputy leader of Odisha BJP Legislature Party Bishnu Sethi.

Notably, the welfare scheme was first introduced in April 2020 during the first wave of Covid-19 and the fifth phase of the scheme was to end in March 2022.
