An opposition candidate and her supporters have alleged serious irregularities in the election of Bari block Chairman in Jajpur district.

As per reports, two candidates Ashok Geddy and Jyotirmayee Behera were in fray for the coveted post. But after the election, Ashok won over as the block chairman by defeating Jyotirmayee.

However, Jyotirmayee alleged that she was defeated in the election due to massive irregularities in the poll process.

As per Jyotirmayee, Rasulpur BDO was the election officer for the poll. All the candidates and six Samiti members were present in the block premises. However, the BDO himself exercised franchise for the Samiti members, she alleged.

Jyotirmayee has lodged a complaint in this regard before the State Election Commission (SEC) and requested the poll body to declare the result of the block chairman election again by quashing those six votes.

“Footage of CCTV camera installed at the election venue should be checked for authentication of my claims. Though mobile phone was not allowed at the venue, the BDO was using his phone and frequently talking with somebody. He might have been under pressure or was probably lured to vote for the Samiti members,” said Jyotirmayee.
