The Odisha State Election Commission has decided to carry out re-polling at a total of 75 booths where the democratic exercise was suspended during the first three phases of Panchayat elections in the State.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, State Election Commission Secretary, Rabindra Sahu on Tuesday said that repolling at 45 booth, where election could not be conducted during the first two phases of polls, will be carried out on February 23.

Out of 45 booths, election could not be held for various reasons in 25 sites during the first phase and 20 booths in second phase.

Similarly, repolling for 30 booths in the third phase of elections will be held on February 25.

Notably, the first three phases of the Odisha Panchayat polls particularly the third phase, was marred by several instances of poll violence, rigging and booth capturing.

Meanwhile, polling for the fourth phase of the elections in 64 Blocks of 27 districts has been completed on Tuesday. Voters have exercised their franchise to elect representatives to 163 Zilla Parishads and 1,254 Panchayats.

Out of the total 17,089 booths set up for the polling, 2,563 were identified as sensitive in the fourth phase.
