Palpable tension prevailed in Sana Adanga under Patakura Police limits in Kendrapara district after a Sarpanch candidate was allegedly attacked by miscreants late on Monday night.

The incident came to fore after the victim, Amiya Ranjan Sahu was rescued from a nullah in a critical condition near Arjunpur Bank-gada late last night.

Sahu was rushed to the Kendrapara hospital for treatment and then shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his health condition showed signs of deterioration.

Speaking to the reporters, a local said, “Some people might have beaten him before throwing him in the nearby nullah. His condition was serious, so we had to shift him from Kendrapara to Cuttack.”

Anticipating law and order situation following the alleged attack, a Police team hurried to the spot to pacify the enraged supporters of Sahu.

Polling for the fourth phase of the three-tier Panchayat Elections in Odisha has begun from 7 am on Tuesday.
