Cutting across party lines, a delegation of 24 MLAs led by Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukh met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Wednesday and conveyed their congratulations to her on becoming the first citizen of India.

Apart from congratulating her, legislators from different political parties including Bharatiya Janata Party, Biju Janata Dal and Congress presented Lord Jagannath’s artefacts to Madam President.    

Deputy Speaker Rajnikant Singh, Debi Prasad Mishra, Sudam Marandi, Minister Niranjan Pujari, Pramila Mallik, Pratap Dev, Santosh Singh Saluja and Anant Narayan Jena, Prashant Kumar Muduli, and MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati were part of the delegation.

Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati gifted a Kotpad saree to Murmu while Pramila Mallick also presented a saree to her.  On the other hand, BJP legislator Bishnu Sethi presented a photo frame of his poem dedicated to Madam President. 

The MLAs were given a tour of the entire Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukh said, “All Party Committee of the Odisha State Assembly called on President Draupadi Murmu today. It was a great moment for us. We presented her a resolution letter. She conveyed her gratitude to Odisha people. She assured to take steps for the development of Odisha.”

Bishnu Sethi said, “I presented her a photo frame of my poem dedicated to her. I also recited first and last lines of my poem before the President.”

Tara Prasad Bahinipati said, “It was a great moment for us. Like others, I had bought a local Kotpad saree for her. As she was minister in 2000 when I was a legislator, I had developed a great rapport with her. When she was Governor of Jharkhand, I also visited Governor House. She affectionately asked me ‘Bhalu Bhai kemiti achhanti. We were toured to Mughal Garden.”

BJD MLA Debi Prasad Mishra said “President informed us about architecture of Rashtrapati Bhawan and how several essential features from the Indian architecture were incorporated into the architectural design and how it got completed in 1931.”

It is learnt that Congress leader Narsingh Mishra, Leader of Opposition Jaya Narayan Mishra did not come to Delhi due to health issues.
MLAs had a meeting at Odisha Bhawan before meeting with President.
