Rajendra Prasad Mohapatra

A delegation of Odisha BJP led by party’s chief whip Mohan Majhi called on Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Sunday and sought his intervention for allowing a vote of thanks proposal to the Union government’s Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in the Assembly.

Notably, the Union government recently increased the tenure for providing free ration to the beneficiaries under PMGKAY scheme for six more months. The Odisha unit of BJP on Monday moved a proposal to the Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro to allow a vote of thanks towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

However, after Patra reportedly refused to accept the proposal without giving any reason, the BJP team met Governor Lal and apprised him about the development. They requested the Governor for his intervention in the matter.

“Crores of beneficiaries in Odisha will be benefitted due to extension of PMGKAY scheme free ration provided by the Union government. However, it is quiet unfortunate that the Speaker of Odisha Assembly didn’t accept the proposal to give vote of thanks to the Union Government for this benevolent initiative,” said BJP leader Mohan Majhi.

“The Speaker’s act is meant to throttle the voice of the Opposition. We have sought the attention of Governor in this regard,” he said.
