Slamming the ruling BJD over lady school teacher Mamita Meher’s murder case in Kalahandi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Odisha State unit in-charge D Purandeswari accused the State government of shielding criminals.

“Any civilised society can’t accept the barbaric way in which Mamita was murdered. However, instead of taking strong actions against the culprits, the Odisha government is trying its best to shield the criminals,” said Purandeswari during a press conference at Bargarh on Wednesday.

“Odisha Home Minister (States) Dibya Shankar Mishra should be axed immediately from the cabinet for his alleged involvement in the murder case. However, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik shared dias with Mishra at a programme during his recent visit to Bhawanipatna,” said Purandeswari.

“This kind of gesture by the Chief Minister gives a clear indication that the State government is shielding criminals and hesitating to take any actions against them,” she said.

The State BJP Prabhari (in-charge) also reiterated her party’s demand for the Minister’s ouster from the Odisha cabinet and strong action against the accused in the sensational Mamita murder case.

“The Odisha government should axe the minister immediately and take steps for stringent actions against the culprits at the earliest. Otherwise, BJP will continue its protests across the State,” she warned.

Meanwhile, turning the heat on the ruling BJD, Opposition BJP has intensified protests across the State opposing each and every visit of the Chief Minister and Minister of State (Home) Mishra.
