Golak who worked in the Kendrapara Municipality had retired from his service around three years ago.
Chairman of the Kendrapara Nagar unit of BJP, Dillip Kumar Das alleged that Padihari had swindled over Rs 5 lakh from 37 women of various SHGs by promising them loans and jobs when he worked in the Municipality.
Das said after the fraud came to light, he tried to lodge an FIR at the Kendrapara Town Police around three months back. However, the police refused to register the offence, he alleged.
Later, following an order of a court, the police registered the case two months back, However, Golak managed to secure bail from a court by then.
Das further alleged that due to Golak's proximity to MLA Behera, the former is allowed to go scot free despite his involvement in the loan and job scam.
The Chairman of the Kendrapara Nagar unit of BJP said, “Golak always accompanies the MLA. Police did not take any action against Golak due to the pressure from the MLA and he managed to get bail from court despite his involvement in the case.”
Meanwhile, the Kendrapara Nagar BJD refuted the allegations levelled by BJP.
“Many people take photographs with MLAs when they visit any public function or events. Golak Parihari might be a worker of the BJD, but he does not hold any post in the party. The MLA also does not have any personal relations with him (Golak),” claimed Jajati Keshari Mohanty, chairman of Kendrapara Nagar BJD.
