The vice chairperson election for Paradip civic body on Thursday took an interesting turn after an independent candidate backed by Bapi Sarkhel filed nomination along with one each from the BJD and the BJP.

There is a possibility of cross voting as the ruling party has not been able to notify the name of any agent for the polls.

It is pertinent to mention here that the BJD has seven councilors in the civic body while the BJP has three and the Congress one. There are eight independent councilors backed by Bapi Sarkhel.

BJD MLA Sambit Routray, on the other hand, said "BJD is a disciplined party. There is no requirement of our agent. They (IND) have higher possibility. The Chairman belongs to BJD, let them be happy with the Vice-Chairman."
