The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released the final voters’ list for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls which is likely to be held in the aftermath of the ongoing Odisha Panchayat elections in the State.

“As per the direction of the State Election Commission, we have released the final electoral roll for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation,” said a BMC official.

In 705 booths, a total of 7,25,765 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the ULB polls, the official added.

The BMC had earlier faced backlash over alleged discrepancies in the draft voter list for the ULB polls. The final voter list has been prepared after rectifying the Ward- wise addition of over 20,000 voters, said sources.

The Odisha Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department had on Wednesday issued a formal notification for the conduct of the ULB elections calling upon Wards to elect mayors, corporators, chairpersons and councillors.

As many as 107 Notified Area Council (NACs)/Municipalities and three Municipal Corporations - BMC, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC)- will go for elections to the civic bodies.

The UBL polls will be conducted after the completion of the ongoing three-tier Panchayat elections in the State. The schedule for the ULB polls 2022 is expected to be notified anytime soon.
