Odisha ULB Elections: Reservation List For Chairman Posts Released, 50 Per Cent Seats Reserved For Women

The Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department of the Odisha government on Monday released the reservation list to the offices of Chairperson of Municipalities and NACs for the civic body polls scheduled to be held this year after the Panchayat elections.

As per a notification issued by the H&UD department, as many as 65 posts, out of the 107 chairman posts, have been reserved.
While nine chairman posts have been reserved for the woman candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste category, five seats have been reserved for Schedule Tribe woman candidates and 40 seats for general women candidates.

According to the notification, the chairman posts in Chhattarpur, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bolangir, Kendrapada, Khordha and Puri have been reserved for women.

Earlier on January 15, the department had released a draft notification listing reservations to the offices of Chairperson of the Municipalities/ NACs for the next civic body polls.

The department had also sought objections and suggestions within a period of fifteen days from the date of publication of the notification in the Odisha Gazette.

It is pertinent to mention here that the State Election Commission has already begun preparations for the upcoming Odisha Municipal Polls with the despatch of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to 15 districts on December 16, 2021.
