Jubilant with their landslide victory in Punjab Assembly Elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is hopeful of springing a surprise too in the forthcoming urban polls in Odisha.

The party has fielded a first year MBA student of Khallikote Autonomous College as their Mayoral candidate for Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC). Though Congress and BJP are banking on heavyweight candidates and seasoned politicians, AAP has pinned hope on the 22-year-old greenhorn C Priyanka, a first year MBA student.

With party symbol broom in hand, Priyanka is campaigning in her area day in and out to garner support.

“The basic problems in Berhampur are poor roads, drainage facility and rise in tax. I will focus on these aspects if I manage to win the election. I will also ensure that people in Berhampur will get affordable healthcare and electric facilities,” Priyanka says in her campaigning call.

This apart she also aims to bring down the rate of holding tax, set up primary healthcare centers and public toilets in each ward.

“People have accepted Kejriwal’s model of governance outside his home state. It will instill confidence in the residents of Berhampur too to vote for AAP. People in Berhampur have long wanted a change of guard,” she says.

Notably, the election to Berhampur Municipal Corporation is scheduled to be held on March 24.
