With just 10 days to go for the elections to urban local bodies in Odisha, candidates from the major political parties eyeing for the coveted Mayor post of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) are seen leaving no stones unturned to woo voters.
While the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Sanghamitra Dalai for the post, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s pick is Dr Sabita Suar. The grand old party Congress’s choice is Manju Rath in the race for the mayoral berth.
Here are some key facts about the three Mayor aspirants
Sanghamitra Dalai (BJD)
Sanghamitra Dalai, aged about 52 years, is the wife of Bhimasen Dalai. She is a resident of Bada Sahi under Berhampur town police limits in Ganjam district.
Educational Qualifications:
She did her LL.B from Ganjam Law College under Berhampur University.
Professional Career:
She is an advocate as well as social worker while her husband is a businessmen.
Assets
While the total values of her moveable and immovable assets stand at Rs 52,56,467 and Rs45,00,000 respectively, she has a liability of Rs 6,68,744.
She has not declared any criminal case in her affidavit and has declared a self income of Rs7,00,000 per annum.
Dr Sabita Suar (BJP)
Sabita Suar, aged about 43 years, is the wife of Uttam Kumar Panigrahi. She is a resident of Indira Nagar, Berhampur in Ganjam district.
Educational Qualifications
She did her PhD in Linguistics from Berhampur University in Ganjam district.
Assets
She has declared in her affidavit that she has assets worth Rs88,50,000, of which Rs35,00,000 are moveable and Rs53,50,000 immovable, and that she has no liability. She has declared in her affidavit that she is self salaried and her husband a businessman.
She has not declared any criminal case against her.
Manju Rath(Congress)
Manju Rath, aged about 62 years, is the wife of Rabi Rath. He is a resident of Engineering School Road in Berhampur of Ganjam district.
Educational Qualifications:
She did her M.Sc. in Zoology from Berhampur University in 1984.
Professional career:
She is the publisher of The Nabeen, an Odia weekly.
Assets:
As per her affidavit, the value of her movable assets stand at Rs22,08,053 and she doesn’t possess any immovable asset. She has no liability. She has declared in her affidavit that she is self salaried and her husband a businessman. She has declared in her affidavit that her source of income is newspaper business.
