BJP’s Member of Parliament from Bhubaneswar, Aparajita Sarangi made a sensational revelation on Tuesday when she said that some political leaders have started luring voters by offering to purchase their votes for the upcoming BMC polls.

However, she refrained from disclosing the name/s of the ‘political leaders’ or their party affiliation/s.

She however, said she has the proof to substantiate her claims which she will make public in due time.

Speaking to reporters, Sarangi said, “I have three recorded videos that will surprise you. This is my Parliamentary constituency. Votes are being purchased by bargaining with the voters.”

Votes are being purchased for anything between Rs 500 and Rs 1000, alleged Sarangi.

Urging voters residing in the 450 slums in and around Bhubaneswar not to fall trap to the inducement, Sarangi said, “Please do not sell your votes to unscrupulous political leaders or anybody for that matter. Please exercise your franchises honestly.”

The BJP has named well known writer and social activist Suniti Mund as the party’s Mayoral candidate for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) ahead of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls in the State.

The announcement was made by Sarangi on Saturday.

The State Election Commission (SEC) had earlier announced elections to 106 ULBs and three Municipal Corporations on March 24. The counting of votes will take place on March 26.

The three Municipal Corporations will have a total of 168 Wards and 1,407 polling booths. These include 67 Wards and 705 booths in BMC, 59 Wards and 452 booths in CMC, and 42 Wards and 250 booths in BeMC.
